Many congratulations to our brilliant tag rugby teams for such splendid performances in this week’s Dudley finals. Having come first and second in the qualifying competition in November, our teams went to Oldswinford Hospital School yesterday to compete against the best schools from Dudley. Our B team played really well and were unfortunate to go out in the quarter finals against Church of the Ascension A.
Our A team eased through the pool games with emphatic wins, going on to beat Maidensbridge 4-0 in the semi-final to progress to the final against Church of the Ascension A. This was a hugely exciting and entertaining game of end to end rugby. At the end of the allotted game time of seven minutes, the score was a nail-biting 3-3, which meant the game moved on to two minutes of extra time. Our Greenfield team worked well together but after extra time the scores were still level at 5-5. This meant the match was to be decided by a ‘golden try’. Every player in our team managed to raise the level of their performance once again, enabling Ben Atherton to run in the deciding score!
This means that Greenfield are now the Dudley Champions and through to the Black Country Games in May. I am immensely proud of the effort, enthusiasm and positive sporting attitude of both our teams. Many congratulations to Jake Holloway, Jack Iceton, Toby Gorner, Jenson Ollerenshaw, Reuben Allen, Tom Burborough, Eloise Kent, Jordan Docker, Bethan Rees, Millie Knott, Owen Westwood, Ben Atherton, Max Lamb, Joe Owen, Connor Palmer, Sam Grimmett-Bate, Sonny Morgan, Joe Kelly, Isabel Norton, Jessica Noble and Jada Thompson! You are a credit to our school and really prove how much we can achieve through dedication, team work and determination. Greenfield have been the Black Country tag rugby champions for two out of the last four years, so please keep your fingers crossed for further success this year.
