In line with Dudley’s Healthy Policy, we are adopting a new approach to break time snacks. To launch the new policy we are delighted that the free fruit and vegetable scheme currently enjoyed by Key Stage 1 children, will be extended to Key Stage 2 pupils from January for half a term. During this time, Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be given a free piece of fruit or vegetable every break-time. The produce is of a really high quality and includes very sweet tangerines, carrots, bananas, pears, apples and tomatoes.
The new approach only relates to food and drink brought in from home for break time snacks and aims to support all pupils to consume a healthy and nutritious break time snack, enabling them to make the right choice at the right time. Children may bring fruit, vegetables and water. If children bring other snacks or drinks, they will be asked to put the food away to eat with their packed lunch. Wholemeal toast will still be available at break time for Key Stage 2 children.
