To Read or Not To Read?

There is no question about the fact that good readers do better in their learning than poor readers. As research from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) states: ‘Developing a love of reading can be more important for a child’s educational success than their family’s socio-economic background’. It was rewarding to see such a clear love of books and reading in our school, as our children amazed us with their creative character costumes during yesterday’s World Book Day. We were delighted to welcome many of the Harry Potter characters, Mary Poppins in a variety of sizes, the Mad Hatter, Pippi Longstocking, Gandalf, Mr Twit, Superworm, Mr Greedy and many more famous figures from children’s literature.
