We are pleased that our children in Year 3 and Year 5 have enjoyed their Bikeability training this week. The children worked with the Dudley Road Safety Team and completed practical training as well as developing their understanding of the Highway Code. Bikeability is based on the government approved National Standards for Cycle Training, which teach the necessary skills to ride confidently on today’s roads. Cycling is a life-long skill, which encourages a healthy lifestyle, boosting confidence and developing independence. There are three award levels for Bikeability, with a level to suit all abilities, from beginner to experienced commuter or rider. Our Year 3 children completed Level 1, teaching basic bike-handling skills in a controlled traffic-free environment. Our Year 5 children completed Level 2, teaching them to cycle planned routes on minor roads and offering a real cycling experience.
Traffic and parking are two serious issues for the children of Greenfield Primary School both in the morning and at the end of the school day. The main problems are cars parking as close to school as possible with no apparent concern for the safety of our children as they arrive at and leave school. If you do travel to school by car, please park safely and make sure you keep your eyes out for both pedestrians and cyclists, as more children may well be cycling to school after their Bikeability training.
